Electrocochleography (ECochG or ECOG) is an electrophysiological test that records electrical potentials generated by the cochlea and auditory nerve in response to sound stimulation, providing information about inner-ear electrical activity and cochlear function.
ECochG may be used as an adjunctive test when evaluating suspected endolymphatic hydrops and Ménière’s disease. It provides supportive physiological information, but ECochG results are not considered diagnostic on their own-diagnosis of Ménière’s disease is primarily based on clinical symptoms, history, examination, and appropriate audiological and vestibular investigations.
VHIT may be recommended if you’re experiencing recurrent vertigo, dizziness, imbalance, oscillopsia (a sense that your vision is bouncing), or a suspected inner-ear balance disorder – particularly when your clinician needs to isolate function of the semicircular canals.
